Verified Rescues Released Their Outline

Verified Rescuesreleased their outline today of the plan they hope will start the process of evaluating and verifying pet rescues

The outline covers everything from IRS designations as a 501c3 to creating an adoption book for the adopting families.

"The goal," explains Alison Walter, one of Verified Rescue's founders, "is to create a way for rescues, volunteers, fosters and shelters to evalaute the quality of a rescue and make decisions based on the rating and public feedback about their organization."

"They know the first time out of the gate, it won't be perfect, "This has not been tried before, so we are in new territory in terms of finding a balance between identifying quality rescues and saving the most animals. It will be a work in progress." says Walter.

"Of course we expect resistance," says Art Fyvolent, another Verified Rescues founder, "this whole concept about being ranked and rated is somewhat outside the comfort zone of many in rescue. But they are going to have to recognize that there are a number of bad rescues that are detrimental to the welfare of the animals, and they have to be identified." Fyvolent explains, "a 501c3 designation does not mean a rescue is good or bad, it's an IRS taxation designation, not an evaluation of the quality of their rescue. Having a 501 certainly helps identify the quality rescues, and we will celebrate that status, but it is not the be all end all."

The best way to make this successful Walter and Fyvolent say is for all the interested parties to come together to find common ground and agree that the mission is all about the animals. And downloding the outline and contributing to the verification creiteria is one of the first big steps to take.
